Minnehaha-Hiawatha Historic Context Study and
Cultural Resources Evaluation
Minneapolis, MN (2009)

This project developed historic contexts and property evaluations for an industrial corridor comprised of early 20th-century grain mills, elevators, and factories. The area also includes an early 20th-century African American community centered on Snelling Avenue. The study results were integrated into a planning framework developed by Hennepin County.

Shingle Creek African-American Community Research
Minneapolis, MN (2000)

Construction of new houses and parkway for the Humboldt Greenway involved changes to an early African American settlement on the city’s far north edge. Our historical documentation and interpretive plan for Hennepin County included many interviews with community residents. Project components included a historic structure report for one property built by a former slave, the creation of historic markers, and a research report. This project assisted in connecting current and former community members and making their history part of the Greenway. View image
